Camera Heart Rate Variability is an innovative application that enables users to record, plot, and export time and frequency domain Heart Rate Variability (HRV) features using just their camera - no additional heart rate monitor required.
Employing photoplethysmography (PPG), Camera HRV detects variations in blood volume during a cardiac cycle by illuminating the skin and measuring changes in light absorption. PPG has emerged as a popular non-invasive technique for deriving physiological metrics like heart rate and oxygen saturation. While many existing applications focus solely on heart rate or respiration rate, Camera HRV delves deeper into cardiac autonomic regulation through sinus rhythm variability quantification.
Compatible with various iPhone models, including 5 through 13 Pro Max, Camera HRV proves valuable in assessing sympathetic and parasympathetic balance shifts induced by factors such as training intensity in athletes. By quantifying this shift, HRV analysis helps identify predominant autonomic regulations - a pivotal aspect with ramifications in diverse areas like stress monitoring, pathological condition assessment, and emotional regulation during decision-making processes.
Offering a range of features, the app leverages the camera to extract, plot, store, and export heart rate, rr-intervals, as well as time and frequency domain HRV features like AVNN, SDNN, rMSSD, pNN50, LF, HF, and LF/HF ratios. Users can customize the time window for feature extraction (from 30 seconds to 5 minutes) and benefit from automatic RR-interval correction and event annotation capabilities.
Additionally, the functionality to compare up to 3 recordings facilitates a comprehensive evaluation of autonomic regulation and sympathetic/parasympathetic activity across different contexts. Data export and storage options extend to iTunes and Dropbox in CSV format, encompassing heart rates, rr intervals, events, and calculated features. Noteworthy integrations include compatibility with the Health app for writing Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability data.
